11 - 19 March, 2023
Following a debut in the fair’s main section last year, TAFETA’s 2023 collection will present 20th century and contemporary works on paper from both established and emerging artists of African descent including: Bruce Onobrakpeya, one of the fathers of Nigerian modernism; 2022 Knight Foundation Grantee Marielle Plaisir; pioneering Nigerian modernist Uche Okeke; Babajide Olatunji, a hyperrealist painter based in London; acclaimed photographer George Osodi; and the mythical visual and performance artist, Muraina Oyelami.
“Institutions are part of this movement we’re undertaking. With works by Uche Okeke recently acquired by the MoMA, and Bruce Onobrakpeya exhibiting at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta later this year, it’s great to support works from artists of the 20th century finally taking their rightful place in the spotlight. We will continue to champion younger modern creatives who we hope will thrive in the future and be less impacted by a lag in mainstream art-world exposure. We are excited to know our influence is felt at this widely reputed art market institution, and may it continue long after the event’s doors close.”
