Biography
Ashley Cole (b. 1983) is an African American abstract artist who lives and works out of Los Angeles, California. Inspired by the works of artists such as Basquiat, Sam Gilliam, Mary Lovelace O’neal, and Alma Thomas, Cole delights in incorporating diverse perspectives of abstractions in her works.
Always aspiring to convey emotional energy in her work, a relatable source of inspiration has been 20th century jazz greats, whose output she endeavours to replicate in her usage of colour, materials and texture.
Recent exhibitions include at the Innerspace Gallery in Downtown Los Angeles; Syncopation, her debut showing in London; and a group show with the Better Watts Initiative, showing alongside established artists like Derek Fordjour and Rashid Johnson.
